How to request loss runs from Markel.
Markel is a specialty insurer that writes commercial lines like workers' compensation, general liability, and professional and management liability through independent agents and brokers. Loss run requests usually come up when you are remarketing a commercial account and need the claim history to shop it.
How to request
Agent portal
Appointed agents pull loss runs in mPortal at account.markel.com. For workers' compensation, open Loss Runs under quick links and enter the end date and policy number. For other policies, open the account, go to account summary, and click View Loss Runs.
Online form
If you cannot self-serve, Markel publishes a loss run request form. It asks for the policy or account number, the named insured, the policy years, your delivery preference (email or fax), and your contact information.
Carrier rep
General guidanceIf a report is not available in mPortal for your line, route the request through your Markel underwriter or the service channel listed in the portal.
What to include in your request
- Named insured exactly as it appears on the policy
- Policy or account number and the policy years you need
- Your delivery preference (Markel's form offers email or fax)
- Your agency name and producer code if you are the agent of record
- A broker of record letter if you are not the current agent of record. Markel states loss runs can only be obtained by the AOR or BOR and are not released to another party without a BOR letter.

No. Markel states loss runs can only be obtained by the agent or broker of record. If you are shopping the account, submit a broker of record letter signed by the insured with your request.
